Rebecca Kershner
“The fun, small things we do to connect with each other are multiplied in the community financially,” says Rebecca Kershner about Tri Kappa.
“That’s why I like making cheeseballs. I think it’s really fun to have something so simple make a big impact. It’s fun getting together to make them on a Saturday, and that’s a Saturday where I get to stand across from people and really get to know them.”
Rebecca is a lifelong “Indiana girl,” born in Indianapolis, schooled at Indiana University, always a resident of the Hoosier state. She loves that all her extended family live in the Indy area, where she was a proud Franklin Central Flash in high school. After completing her degree at IU in elementary education, Rebecca spent a couple years teaching in Indy before she met her husband, Bill.
As he is the director of the Christian Fellowship at IU, the newlyweds moved back to Bloomington to make a home and raise a family, which now includes kids Charlie and Emma.
Rebecca teaches second grade at Clear Creek Christian School.
She became interested in Tri Kappa through her friend, Amy Mooney.
“Our sons played baseball together,” Rebecca remembers. “We were talking, and Amy mentioned Tri Kappa. I thought to myself, ‘That sounds really awesome.’ I had heard a lot about what Tri Kappa does in the community but didn’t really know much about it.
“I was surprised (and happy) to get my invitation in the mail!”
Rebecca hopes to become even more involved in Tri Kappa in a couple years, when she and her husband become empty-nesters.
“There are times right now that I don’t feel like I even have time to live,” Rebecca laughs.
All in all, Rebecca has really enjoyed her few years in Tri Kappa and looks forward to making even more connections with her sisters in the future.
“I love Tri Kappa because it gives me opportunities to fundraise and do things for our community,” Rebecca says. “I really do love how the money we make fundraising is turned around to support things going on in Bloomington.”
