Rebecca Cook
Rebecca Cook has a thing about numbers, which makes her a perfect fit for her new job as Tri Kappa’s treasurer.
The Milwaukee native received her undergraduate degree in economics and math from the University of Wisconsin. While there, she joined the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. That connection makes her “double sorority sisters” with Joyce Cookman, Andrea Cockerham, Niki Wright, and Stacy Bruce.
Following college, Rebecca worked on the Chicago Board of Trade. She came to Btown for her MBA to study finance and investments at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. After spending 14 years in investment management in Chicago and Kansas City, she accepted a job at her grad school alma mater in 2010. She now runs undergraduate career services at Kelley, where she is in charge of 8,500 students.
She and her husband, Chris, also a Kelley MBA, have two children, McKenna and Gavin.
“I met Andrea (Cockerham) when her son Andrew and my daughter were playing on the same ice hockey team,” Rebecca says. “Not that many girls play ice hockey.
“Andrea asked me about Tri Kappa, and I realized I knew other women in the club – Alayna Gray, Tara Babcock and others.”
Rebecca joined the Alpha chapter in 2017. She got to work right away.
“Chairing the Scholarship Committee the last two years, that’s been a lot of fun,” Rebecca says. “I guess mostly it’s because it’s helping people achieve their goals of going to college!”
Rebecca also spent five years on the board of the Boys and Girls Clubs Auxiliary, starting her term in 2011. She served as – what else? – treasurer during her tenure there. She brings her love of fundraising to Tri Kappa.
“I like the fundraisers for the obvious reason of raising money, but it’s also fun to get together,” Rebecca says.
“Cheeseballs are a huge mess but so much fun to make! I also really like Blingo.”
Her love of networking and getting to know people has made it easy to make new friends in Tri Kappa.
“I like Tri Kappa because it’s so diverse -- ages and backgrounds -- we’re not cookie-cutter people,” Rebecca says. “We are all raising money for great causes and giving back to the community.
“It’s almost instant gratification!”
