Aubrey Williams
Although we don’t have to answer Aubrey Williams with a sharp “Yes, ma’am,” during our Tri Kappa meetings, we can brag about having our very own U.S. Army captain in our ranks.
“The first 10 years of my childhood, I was a nomad,” says Aubrey, whose dad was in the Armed Forces also. “I was born in New Jersey, we went to Germany, then Korea twice, before finally moving to Ellettsville near my dad’s parents in Greene County. I was glad because I wanted the quintessential high school experience.”
Aubrey was on Bloomington North’s Student Council with fellow Tri Kappa Aggie Sarkissian’s daughter, Aliese, and she worked at the Monroe County Public Library with Aggie’s son, Alex. Aubrey also had a connection to Tri Kappa through Lisa Carmin, whose daughters Jennifer and Lauren were Aubrey’s friends in school, as was Joyce Cookman’s son, Alex.
When it came time for college, Aubrey could feel those military strings pulling her toward West Point on the Hudson River in New York. After graduation, she owed the U.S. Army five years of her life, so she began her service with the Third Infantry Division in Stewart, Ga. She was deployed to Iraq twice.
On a lighter note, she was fixed up with her husband, Dan, while in the service. They have two sons, Kenny and Freddie.
After her military obligation ended, Aubrey worked for Mars. Inc. in Tennessee, got her master’s degree in business administration from Indiana University’s Kelley School of business and eventually took over her dad’s Edward Jones business in Ellettsville. Just recently, she and her husband opened Heartwork Brewing on North College Avenue.
A Daughters of the American Revolution friendship with Chelsea Jones brought Aubrey to Tri Kappa. She decided to join the Alpha chapter for several reasons, the biggest being community-building.
“I would absolutely say that I love how deeply rooted Tri Kappa is in the community of Bloomington,” Aubrey says. “That’s what I wanted when I moved back here, to find a group of friends who would help me build my community.”
Aubrey has really found a home at Tri Kappa.
“I like how much good work Tri Kappa does in the community,” Aubrey says. “I didn’t know about Tri Kappa while I was growing up in Bloomington. I also really like the multi-generational aspect of the sorority.
“I have found that if a person really wants to make good friends in Tri Kappa, meetings just aren’t enough. You must go to sisterhood socials or sign up for Flower Day and sweat together!”
