Melinda Spice
Many moons ago, Melinda Spice fixed up her old cheerleading buddy, Amy Shute, with a guy name Steve Denney. In 2020, Amy Denney finally returned the favor by fixing Melinda up with Tri Kappa.
“When we moved to Bloomington from Eastern Greene County, I wanted to do charitable and philanthropic things,” Melinda said. “Tri Kappa will get you a dab of everything.
“I’m shy, and Tri Kappa has been so good for me … it’s helped me come out of my shell. I’ve really enjoyed being a small part of all the good that comes out of the organization.”
Born in Daviess County, Melinda’s family moved to Owensburg and she attended Eastern Greene High School. She and her husband, Brian, raised their three daughters there before moving to Btown when the girls were grown.
Melinda received a business administration degree from Vincennes University and then a nursing degree from Ivy Tech Community College. She now works as a logistician in the night vision department at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division. With the change of career, she never had to miss her daughters’ school activities.
Melinda admits she pretty much loves all things Tri Kappa.
“I like to help with Blingo,” she says. “I went to Blingo before I was a member of Tri Kappa, even though I never win anything!”
Another activity Melinda enjoys is the Dirty Santa gift exchange.
“The ladies really make me laugh with their stealing,” Melinda says.
However, it’s Tri Kappa’s philanthropy that really steals Melinda’s heart.
“I really like our Small Sacrifice every month,” she says. “I think it’s really sweet that we do that. I have served on the Community Service Committee, and I was able to deliver the Small Sacrifices. People are so grateful, and that makes me feel so good.”
Melinda says she enjoys the monthly meetings and tries to attend each one.
“I have really enjoyed my time in Tri Kappa,” she says. I don’t miss very many meetings because it’s so fun to be there. I look forward to meeting every month.”
